I'm not up to update my phone. Yesterday evening (March 17, 2012) I update firmware Samsung mobile Galaxy S II I from Android to Android 4.0.3 2.3.6 Gingerbread Ice Cream Sandwiches. The Update is done via Samsung Kies. Internet access on a computer directly from a mobile phone that will be updated by activating hotspot portable. So no need to bother to wear/borrow another internet connection. Because this is a major update times, so it takes a lot longer than the minor updates. Total takes 1 hour of clicking update to mobile phones can be used. Before the firmware update, Kies Samsung phones also have requested updates itself first. Thank you to Indosat internet.
Update files that are downloaded are large enough. The reason is in addition to many changes to the operating system, in this update package also included the provisioning applications new version which has been designed for Ice Cream Sandwich. So, pay attention to the internet package you use.
Of use for 1 day, I encountered a few drawbacks, among others:
- Load applications sometimes takes quite a long time, even for a provisioning application such as phone and contacts.
- In application Messaging (SMS) mobile number + 62xxx distinguished 0xxx. That is, if we keep the number with the prefix 0 (do not use country code) on contacts, on Messaging name will not appear, even number + is displayed just like not storing 62xxx number.
- Wi-fi (portable hotspot also of course) is often an error, can not powered. If it is an error, restart so that it can be turned back on. Because I use the portable hotspot to access the internet, the computer gets really annoying if an error.
- Internet connection (APN) for a number of applications such as Play Store, YouTube, Facebook, and Yahoo! Messenger cannot use the proxy. Opera Mini Internet and still can. Previously I was using a proxy 10.19.19.19: 8080 (Indosat), now without a proxy.
- Notification bar can be withdrawn/appears when the are on the lock screen. Whether this is deliberate or not.
- In addition, of course the TouchWiz (UI/theme made by Samsung) much scrutinized the users including me. If only we were given the option of using Holo (UI/theme official Android Ice Cream Sandwich).
